Mark Hughes joined Canterbury in 1973 as a five-eight.
The brother of Garry and Graeme Hughes, Mark progressed through the grades to play in the reserve grade Semi-Final against Newtown.
In 1974, Mark received the opportunity to play first grade against St George as a replacement.
By mid-season, Mark was a regular member of the first grade team and played in the Grand Final against Easts (Roosters).
In 1975, Mark spent most of the season playing in the centres and played in the Preliminary Semi-Final against Parramatta. In 1976, Mark played in the Preliminary Final against Manly.
